UCSF is working to achieve diversity in leadership by utilizing a multi-tiered approach. Initiatives include improving recruitment and hiring practices; building leadership development programs for faculty and staff to open leadership paths; and reviewing high-profile leadership development opportunities to ensure intentionality around creating diverse and inclusive programs.

Advancing Excellence in Faculty Recruitment & Leadership

The program supports the goal of diversifying our faculty by recruiting, hiring and retaining diverse scholars. Senior faculty members are also designated as Faculty Equity Advisors to help facilitate faculty recruitment process and monitor search process and outcomes.

Advancing Excellence in Staff Recruitment (AESR)

The Advancing Excellence in Staff Recruitment program, which is supported by a partnership between the Office of Diversity & Outreach and Human Resources, focuses on the implementation of a UCSF-wide process improvement to promote recruitment best practices and standard work in our staff hiring and promotions. This includes standardized hiring for senior staff and leadership positions (Manager 2 and above), data-driven best practices, and training and consultations as part of the recruitment process.
