Equity in Patient Care

We seek to achieve equitable access, experience and outcomes for every patient at UCSF Health and our affiliates, by identifying and understanding systemic health care disparities and building key partnerships within and outside of the UCSF health walls to eliminate those disparities.

Core Areas of Work

Health Equity Council
The council was established to advise, endorse and advocate for health care equity, specifically at UCSF Health. This group collects data to understand health disparities, educate and socialize health equity as an institutional priority, and plan and strategize efforts to improve patient experience and health care access.

Department of Quality and Patient Safety
To provide safe care of the highest quality to all UCSF patients, the department partners with the Helath Equity Council, and tracks objective measures of performance, comparing them with those of other top medical centers nationwide as well as UCSF’s own high standards.

Black Health Initiative
The initiative aims to change the culture of health experiences in the San Francisco’s Black/African American community by providing ongoing outreach, addressing resource gaps, and promoting health equity.

Latinx Center of Excellence – Community Clinics
Clínica Martín-Baró is a student-run clinic in the San Francisco Mission neighborhood that helps address the medical needs of the predominantly uninsured Latinx day laborers.
