eQuality Scholarship Collaborative has fostered student leadership for more than a quarter century. In 2016, our cumulative scholarship awards surpassed $1,000,000. eQuality Scholarship Collaborative awards scholarships to honor and encourage California students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community.

The Bay Area Schweitzer Fellows Program is a one-year interdisciplinary, mentored fellowship program focused on health-related community service and leadership development. In addition to the four overall goals of the U.S. Schweitzer Fellows Program®, the Bay Area Schweitzer Fellows Program strengthens Fellows' resolve to provide health service to under-served populations by facilitating opportunities for students to: 1) Use their skills and knowledge in real-life situations; 2) Become culturally sensitive and compassionate caregivers; 3) Understand the impact of social and environmental determinants of health; 4) Build capacity for and commitment to improving the health status of individuals and communities as well as contributing to social change; 5) Work collaboratively and across disciplines in pursuit of a common goal; and 6) Learn how to exercise leadership skills to work with and influence community based organizations, community leaders, and academic institutions to embrace holistic, service-oriented approaches to health.

Each year the makers of TYLENOL® award annual scholarships to well deserving students pursuing careers in healthcare. Twenty-three years and over eight million dollars later, we're proud to continue a tradition that supports those dedicated to a lifetime of caring for others.

The monthly stem cell seminar series brings scientists from all over the world to the forefront of regenerative medicine, and emphasizes the basic research and translational themes of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regeneration Medicine and Stem Cell Research at UCSF. These seminars provide an opportunity for the UCSF community to learn about the work being done by prestigious researchers from other institutions, preview unpublished scientific results, initiate collaborations and build networks. The speakers that are invited to the series provide novel insights into stem cell functions, tissue development, and cell-based approaches for the treatment of diseases. Seminars generally occur on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 12:00 pm.

The UCSF/Kaiser Bridging Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) is a career development program for women's health research. Through financial support, targeted mentorship, and educational programs, we support the next generation of scholars. The program is a joint effort of the University of California, San Francisco, and the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research.

The K Scholars program, part of CTSI's Clinical and Translational Science Training (CTST) program, supports the career development of junior faculty building careers in clinical and translational research. This program serves the needs of junior faculty from all four UCSF Schools and from a range of disciplines and backgrounds. UC San Francisco is one of 22 universities with Institutional Research and Career Development Award (IRACDA) programs funded by NIH/NIGMS. IRACDA Scholars receive mentored research and teaching training at major research institutions partnered with a teaching-intensive institution with a demonstrated commitment to outreach. UCSF's partner is San Francisco State University.

During the development of a research career, junior faculty need to focus intensively on their research for a critical period of time. Due to the demands of family care, faculty may struggle to keep up with an ambitious research agenda especially during and immediately after periods of more intense family caregiving. The funding will fill a gap in support for junior faculty with significant family caregiving responsibilities by providing funding for supplemental research support. Eligible faculty conducting clinical or translational research will complete a structured application describing the need for additional support, the value and goals of the research to be pursued, and how the funding will extend the current research program. The proposed research must be clearly justified as being on the path to potential use in humans.
