In August of 2020, the Chancellor’s Cabinet established the UCSF Anti-racism Initiative. The Cabinet noted that while we have a long history at UCSF of advancing equity, we have more work to do. The Anti-Racism Initiative marks our commitment to working to dismantle systemic racism’s multifaceted challenges.

In June 2020, students at UCSF School of Dentistry delivered a list of demands with the goal of “empowering the administration to uphold our mission statement for the betterment of current and future Black students.” School leadership worked with students to develop and publish a response plan. List of demands (PDF) |  Response/action plan (PDF). 

In 2020, the UCSF Graduate Division Dean's Office received two petitions from graduate students urging leadership to take action against racism and police brutality. View the timeline of leadership response.

Talmadge King, MD, Dean, UCSF School of Medicine, published a statement of the school's ongoing commitment to the anti-racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The school has also published a timeline cataloguing the milestones along its journey in creating the most diverse, equitable, and inclusive medical school in the country.

The UCSF School of Nursing has publicly committed to standing in solidarity with communities of color to fight racism and has identified specific actions the school will take to support this commitment

In response to student suggestions, The UCSF School of Pharmacy created the Anti-racist Curriculum Task Force, which reported on the state of the program with regard to issues of race and racism and set targets for improvements.

Dr. Mark Laret, President and CEO of UCSF Health, issued a statement on injustice and racism in our country, and the need for UCSF Health to accelerate work to reduce health disparities and racial inequities.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals has created a webpage offering events and resources so the BCH community can learn about current efforts to dismantle structural racism.
