We in the department of Neurosurgery are working in partnership with the non-profit organization Oasis for Girls to offer paid internship programs for underserved high school female youth of color (ages 14-18) to expose them to medical and healthcare professional careers with mentorship, career path exploration, and professional development through hospital rotations in labs, the OR, and other academic or healthcare locations, with research projects, presentations, and interactive activities. We accept a group of 15-18 youth per cycle with 3 application / intern cycles per year. We are expanding our programs to reach other demographics (e.g. young Black males, LGBTQ+ youth, college pre-med students). Altogether these programs are housed under the title Neurosurgery Community Internship Programs (NCIP).

CTRFP is a yearlong pre-doctoral training program open to students in UCSF School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy and School of Dentistry. The program provides training and mentorship to pre-doctoral students in clinical and translational research methodology and practice. Students who wish to participate must take a year off from their studies and commit one year (July-June) to clinical and translational research work under the guidance of a UCSF mentor. The program is also available to medical students outside of UCSF through the Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellowship (details can be found here: CTR Fellowship Programs International Research). Funding for this yearlong program is available to students through RAPtr and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Voces Latinas Nursing Student Association (VOCES) is a student-based organization at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The purpose of VOCES is to unite students from diverse backgrounds with an interest and passion for the Latino community. Through our educational journey, unique backgrounds, and commitment to community- we aspire to be a source of support to our peers, while highlighting the rewarding field of nursing.

The Health Professions Education Pathway trains innovators from all health professions fields who promote excellence in teaching, translate theory and novel strategies to the learning environment, and expand knowledge in the field of health professions education.

The HSHPS (Hispanic Serving Health Professions School) Graduate Fellowship Training Program provides paid and unpaid training opportunities for graduate and doctoral students and recent graduates interested in working on Hispanic health research. Fellows are placed throughout the United States and Latin America within government agencies and academic institutions. All HSHPS fellows work alongside (1) a mentor; (2) an experienced researcher; (3) or senior staff member and assist with a research project as it relates to minority health issues and participate in a series of professional development seminars.

Those awarded the Allied Healthcare Scholarship may receive up to $8,000 for one year of school. If awarded, recipients agree to a twelve (12) month service obligation practicing full time, direct patient care at a qualified facility in California. Qualified facilities include those designated by The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources Administration (HRSA) or California's Shortage Designation Program, a liaison to the federal Shortage Designation Branch (SDB) of Health Resources and Services Administration as Medically Underserved Area (MUA), Medically Underserved Population (MUP), Health Professional Shortage Area- Primary Care (HPSA-PC), Health Professional Shortage Area- Mental Health (HPSA-MH). In addition to the Federal and CA state designations, any state, county, veteran, or correctional facility qualifies as well as Indian Health Centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers. Those awarded the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Loan Repayment may receive up to $8,000. If you were previously awarded the BSN loan repayment, you may be awarded a second time for up to an additional $11,000. If awarded, recipients agree to a two-year service obligation practicing direct patient care at a qualified facility in California. Each award requires an additional two year service obligation.

Those awarded the Licensed Vocational Nurse Loan Repayment may receive up to $6,000. If awarded, recipients agree to continue practicing full time, direct patient care at a qualified facility in California for a twenty-four (24) month service obligation. Qualified facilities include those designated by The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources Administration (HRSA) or California's Shortage Designation Program, a liaison to the federal Shortage Designation Branch (SDB) of Health Resources and Services Administration as Medically Underserved Area (MUA), Medically Underserved Population (MUP), or Health Professional Shortage Area- Primary Care (HPSA-PC).
