The Hispanic Dental Association (HDA) is a national, non-profit organization comprised of oral health professionals and students dedicated to promoting and improving the oral health of the Hispanic community. In addition, they provide advocacy for Hispanic oral health professionals across the US. As one of the leading voices for Hispanic oral health in California, the UCSF student chapter of HDA promotes service, health education, advocacy and leadership to strengthen our Hispanic student community at UCSF. To reach this goal, we organize health fairs and mentorship events as well as socials, fundraisers, and community service events. In addition, we partner with the Chicanos/Latinos for Health Education (CHE), an organization where the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Dentistry at UCSF come together to reach our main objective to one day eliminate health disparities in the Bay area.

SUHLA is a summer academy for rising 11th graders participating in the FACES for the Future-SF program at the O'Connell High School Health & Science Lab. SUHLA participants will learn key concepts of community health, social justice, advocacy, and social determinants of health through the lens of health and human rights, especially as it relates to the SF Mission District. We are recruiting graduate students in the fields of dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy as SUHLA Fellows. The SUHLA Fellowship is a total of 6 weeks during the summer. This begins with a primer session before the summer academy, where Fellows receive training in teaching skills, small group facilitation, program implementation/evaluation, and community assessment. The Fellowship is followed by the 3 week academy in which the Fellows will take on an instructive role and facilitate the curricular sessions. This will largely take place at SFGH with some sessions at other UCSF-associated campuses. The Academy will culminate in with SFGH Family Health Center community fair, at which academy HS participants will present to their community highlighting health topics.

High School Outreach Conference is an annual event at UCSF that brings together dental, nursing, medical, graduate, pharmacy, and physical therapy students to host over 300 high school students from the bay area. The students begin the day listening to motivational speakers to learn more about the journey to a career in the health sciences, financial aid, and more. Throughout the remainder of the day, students have the opportunity to get their hands dirty by participating hands on demos hosted by each of the schools! HSOC is a day for fun, friends, and sparking passion in the next generation of health care providers! Plus, it's completely free! Last year we had over 300 high school students from all over the Bay Area attend and get hands on experiences in: 1) Medicine; 2) Dentistry; 3) Nursing; 4) Physical Therapy; 5) Pharmacy; and 6) Research. It is a great day with friends, food and fun! So keep checking back for more details and to sign up for our free conference.
